As the tensions between the free world and North Korea’s dictator Kim Jong-un are reaching a boiling point, President Donald Trump has decided to act while there is still time and put even more pressure on China, a the North is largely dependant of the nation in order to survive, meaning that if China was to put sanctiona on North Korea, the threat of a nuclear war or any other conflict would immediately disappear.
According to reports, Trump sent in a destroyer this Thursday to sail in a close proximity of one of China’s artificial islands. The destroyer vehicle known by the name of USS John S. McCain is a guided missile destroyer, coming just 12 nautical miles of Mischief Reef containing military fortifications China has built in an attempt to claim the territory.
In order to monitor the whole process and operation, a P-8 reconnaissance plane was also dispatche by the Navy.
Trump’s move was also justified and supported by the Pentagon, whose spokesperson, Maj. Jamie Davis released a statement explaining why the move was essential in order to perserve control and safety of the American people:
“All operations are conducted in accordance with international law and demonstrate that the United States will fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows,” adding how they had a “comprehensive freedom of navigation operations program that seeks to challenge excessive maritime claims in order to preserve the rights, freedoms and uses of the sea and airspace guaranteed to all nations under international law.”
